📹 YouTuber Fills Y Combinator CEO Seat

YC adds a content creator to their CEO position, the D'Amelio's raise $6m, P. Diddy hops on the creator economy and more. This week on CreatorPad:

Welcome to this week's issue of the CreatorPad Newsletter, where we update you on all things CreatorPad and the creator economy!

One thing that we like to pride ourselves on at CreatorPad is transparency. We don't want to keep anyone in the dark during our progression as a brand, so we hope to give you as many updates as possible as we can share them. We know we haven't given you a proper update in the last few newsletter issues, so check out the below to see where we're at!

Where's the content?! I mentioned about two issues ago that we would have some content for you by week's end, but that time has come and gone, and we haven't dropped anything just yet. To give some background, while we're building CreatorPad, we're also launching a show that we want to get right on the money before putting it out for the world to see. In the process of creating this new show, we have run into many inevitable bumps in the road while we smooth out the content, structure, editing processes, and all the bells and whistles that come along with creating content. It was our hope that by starting this show, we could get a better grasp on the creator journey and its dynamic attributes, and we are most definitely getting the results we sought out for.

While we haven't put anything out just yet, we have been learning so much in terms of editing styles, optimization, structure, and all the intricate details that come with creating video content. We hope that through these learnings, we can create an informative and hilariously entertaining show about the creator economy, made by creators. So with that said, content will be coming soon; we just have a few more tweaks and recordings before sending it live. We can't wait to show you what we've been building!

Content Creator Becomes Y Combinator CEO

Tech startup giant, Y Combinator (YC) announces that YouTube creator Garry Tan will come on as the brand's CEO & President. While Tan has co-founded and helped scale other multi-billion dollar brands, and has had ties to YC in the past, coming on as CEO and President can be a signal to others that taking the creative route that content creators do can add a ton of value to what they can offer.

To give a bit of background, with over 220k subscribers, Garry Tan creates videos giving insight on building businesses, provides thought provoking pieces on tech and business, and even interviews with leaders in the entrepreneurial space.

In the article linked below, written by Natasha Mascarenhas for TechCrunch, it is suggested that Tan's move to President and CEO of YC is in line with their product focus over the past year, and brings a "content creator vibe back to YC's leadership ranks."

With the unique perspective of a creator and the attributes that come along with content creation, do you think that we'll begin to see more content creators moving into exec positions at big name brands? Send us a tweet and let us know your thoughts!

Meet Julian Shapiro-Barnum, host of Recess Therapy!

🎶 It's corn! I can tell you all about it! 🎶 By now, you've probably heard the anthem for summer 22, and it's all thanks to Julian Shapiro-Barnum, the creator and host of Recess Therapy.

As suggested in an article by the New York Times on Julian's background, Julian has always been a creative. In the past few years, he has tried a few different approaches to his man-on-the-street style content, but Recess Therapy is the idea that struck a chord with the internet.

As Julian was doing some editing work for Doing Things Media, he pitched the idea of Recess Therapy to his boss, and his boss latched on, stating: "if there are two industries that are never going anywhere, it’s the pet space and the kid space."

Julian began his journey and traction began to pick up rather quickly; since its start in 2021, Recess Therapy has amassed over 2.3 million Instagram followers and over 120k subscribers on YouTube. With this following, Julian continued to post his edited interviews with kids aged 2-9, and the virality of his interviewees continued to grow.

As Julian has been growing steadily, he recently interviewed a kid who is now dubbed as "The CEO of Corn," and I must say, it's a fitting title (he can tell you all about it). This video has been viewed on YouTube alone over 2.9 million times, and to put it into perspective, we broke down the numbers on Recess Therapy's YouTube channel growth since that video released.

From the videos release on August 4 to September 4, the Recess Therapy YouTube Channel has grown its viewership by +1241% and its subscriber rate by +815%. The success of this video can be a signal to other creators that with the right content, you may find yourself engaging with an entirely new group of consumers, so keep posting!

Julian's continued success with his unique and captivating show is an inspiration to creators of all backgrounds and to us at CreatorPad, is a signal of the success that can come with consistency and iteration. We can't wait to watch Julian's continued success and what he brings to the table next.

Oh! And we'd be remiss to not mention the fact that the introduction and feature of The CEO of Corn landed the CEO himself a Chipotle deal, get that monetization money, buddy!
