š¬ The Science Behind MrBeast, TikTok Text Posts, Apple's Chat GPT, Threads by the Numbers, and more.
This week in creator news we cover the science behind MrBeast's success, we cover Threads through analytics, TikTok copying Twitter & Threads, Apple's ChatGPT Competitor, and more.
Happy Wednesday everyone!!
I wanted to give a massive thank you and shout out to everyone who congratulated me on one full year of newsletters. Itās been a crazy journey and Iāve learned so much about the creator space and myself as a creator and writer. I feel as though Iāve found my true voice, and I cannot wait to continue pushing these out for years to come. Hereās to the next 52 issues and beyond! š„
But enough of that sentimental jibber jabber, letās jump into this weekās creator economy news:
Threads by the Numbers š§®
Shout out to Izea for yet another incredibly insightful report, I swear these folks are some of the most on-top-of-the-ball players in the creator game when it comes to analytics on new trends.
So with Threads dropping recently, Izea went ahead and crunched the numbers for us. Letās jump into the surprising analytics below:
The biggest piece of news with this can be seen in the headline: ā54% of Influencers on Threads have already posted sponsored content.ā Thatās significant, to say the least. With over 100 million users since its launch on July 5, that makes for a lot of people to be influenced, and itās clear that brands have hopped on the brand deal boat asap.
60.9% of influencers created Threads accounts in the first 10 days of launch. With the ability for users to transfer over their IG follows, and subsequently followers, it really was a no-brainer for influencers looking to bring in even more money.
ā90% of active Threads users think the app will be a good place for brands and influencers.ā Not sure how much weight this holds, though. Threads is now down to only 13 million active users as of three days ago, which makes for a 70% decrease in users. While 13M is still nothing to bat an eye at, IG, for comparison, has 500M active daily users as of March. While it may be an ad-friendly place, I believe that comes from the true fans that creators have brought from other platforms.
ā50% of Threads users say that the appās ownership by Meta positively impacts them to use it more.ā That also makes for half of the users thinking Metaās ownership is a negative in this situation. And I canāt blame them, from Musk to Zuck, itās all bad in terms of whoās running these platforms.
āNearly half of 18 to 29-year-olds who joined Threads have already deactivated or deleted their accounts.ā Iāll let this stat speak for itself. Because a Threads user will now have to fully delete their IG account in order to get off of Threads, this potentially makes for many accounts scrubbed from both platforms. I would be interested to see the stats behind this to see how many people deleted, and how many deactivated. Something tells me itās a majority of the latter.
In relation to the above stat about users deactivating, I think this next point holds a lot of weight. The report reads, ā28% of users that have deactivated or deleted their account say that they received unwanted attention or harassment from other users.ā In this same section, Izea also notes that females were far more likely to shut down their accounts as compared to males. I wonder if Threads isnāt going to be this āhappy go-luckyā place that Zuck paints it out to be.
Now there are many more stats and graphs to back up this data, so I definitely recommend going and checking out the full report below. While some of the user base is down from launch date, this is to be expected from almost any new product. Especially in the social sphere. I believe Threads will continue to be a force to be reckoned with, and has most definitely placed Twitter (or āXā now itās now referred to?) on the burners.
Creator Economy News šØ
This week in the creator world, TikTok is copying everyone, again; Nominations for the Streamyās are in and the results areā¦ unsurprising; Apple launches a ChatGPT competitor, diving into the science behind MrBeast videos, and more.
The Streamyās are back again and the nominations are no surprise. With Nightās roster, theyāre seemingly taking over. Who do you guys have in mind for Creator of the Year? Honestly, I think Trahan is the most wholesome so Iām going with that beast of a creator.
Literally what the F is going on in our dystopian tech landscape? TikTok just launched a text post feature, I assume because they want to be in the Twitter v Threads drama. Iām going to buy a flip phone.
Jay Clouse interviews Phill Agnew, who studies the behavioral science behind marketing. With Agnewās interest lying in the behaviors and mentality of consumers, itās no wonder why heās taken a dive into MrBeast. This EP is a goldmine for creators, so be sure to tune in! Awesome EP, Jay. Thank you for the insight as always!!

Apple is taking a crack at its own version of ChatGPT with āAppleGPT.ā Apparently, the brand isnāt sure what to do with this chatbot just yet, but itās aimed to work both internally for Apple employees, and as an outward-facing product that will be launched in the next year. Do you think Apple is producing the ChatGPT killer?
āWant to prove youāre not a robot? Give us money and stare into this robot.ā - Sam Altman (probably). OpenAIās CEO Sam Altman has announced a new product called āWorld IDā which is essentially a ādigital passportā that proves youāre a human. Oh yea, thereās also a crypto coin tied to it. Can we just pls save ETH instead?

Meet JHXC64!
Now, I covered JHXC a few newsletter issues ago, heās the creator who used the reference video from Ludwig that showcased how YouTube isnāt luck, but skill. To prove this theory, Ludwig, created a completely new channel and racked up tens of thousands of views and a few k subs.
So, JHXC64 decided to try the same tactic, and to his surprise, it worked!Ā
After that video popping off, JHXC has amassed 31k subs and is now pushing out even more content related to YouTube, and YouTubers.
His most recent video? Tackling the slow death of YouTube outros. As a continuation of his video āThe Slow Death of YouTube Intros,ā JHXC takes a crack at why outros are on the same road to death as intros for content creators (or are they?).
Definitely go check out JHXC, I have a feeling heāll continue to pop off and get some big hits with his strategic YouTube gameplay, so get in while itās still early!
Keep killin it and giving us that YT insight, JHXC!!
