Laying the Groundwork

This is the part where the foundation gets built.

Gooooooood morning readers!

How are we feeling on the verge of the upcoming long weekend (and kickoff of summer (wasn’t it January like two weeks ago???))?

I’m feeling ready for the weekend as I set off on a road trip up to Montana. As I’ve been getting deeper into John Muir’s writings recently, this adventure couldn’t be coming at a better time. I’m ready to get into nature and create some new perspectives for my creativity, approach to start up life, and being more grounded.

As the great Muir pens, “the mountains are calling, and I must go.”

It’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind.

As you scroll and see announcements, wins, and launches, it seems that everyone is shipping, selling, and scaling as you continue to build your foundations.

And if you’re in a quieter chapter, where you’re planning, building, fixing, learning, or just keeping your head down, those quiet moments can start to feel like you’re not doing enough.

Like progress only counts if it’s seen.

But the most meaningful stuff? As I’ve talked about many times, it’s likely happening where no one’s watching.

From optimizing a certain part of your business, to cleaning up your footage, crafting out your personal brand, or even building a tiny, seemingly insignificant feature; These are the times when the true growth happens.

And the toughest part?

That kind of work is hard to measure. It’s definitely hard to post about. But it’s often the stuff that sets you up for what’s next.

It’s the prep before the launch.

The editing before the publish.

The dozens of “no’s” before the first “yes.”

We don’t talk enough about that phase, and because of that, it’s easy to mistake quiet for failure.

But as I always bring up in these pieces, that silence doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

And it definitely doesn’t mean you’re behind.

This is the part where you keep going, even when it’s not flashy.

This is the part where the foundation gets built.

You’re not falling behind.

You’re laying the foundations for future growth.
