Happy Wednesday creators!
Itās great to be back on the East coast, in particular NY, and the energy is refreshing. I never thought Iād miss taking the subway, but here we are, backpack sweat and all. š
Looking forward to meeting up with some of you creators this week, if we havenāt connected yet, be sure to reach out! Now letās get to the latest in creator economy news š
TikTok Doubles Down on Long Form ā±
The short (form) king has recently announced a push to allow even more creators to access their long form video features, paywalls, and more.
As always, Iāll break down the biggest details in bullet points below but the gist is that TT is expanding accessibility to its Series feature. This will allow for a more YouTube/Patreon like feel, solidifying their approach to become the de facto video content platform. Letās get into the nitty gritty!
the feature, dubbed āSeriesā introduces a paywall feature where viewers can unlock exclusive content for paid access.
Creators can price their content between $1 and $190. Not insane, but better than nothing!
Premium videos can now be up to 20 minutes long, double the previous 10-minute limit. Here come the podcasters!
For eligibility, you have to be in a region which allows Series, you must be 18+, and have 10k followers. Seems as though thereās a few more barriers to entry in place here, but itās much lower than it used to be!
Users with at least 1k followers can apply if they have sold exclusive content elsewhere, but approval is not guaranteed.
While Iām a firm believer in YouTube being the king of creator platforms, albeit not the best (bring back the dislike button), this move to lowering the barrier to entry will likely prove to a lot more long form content on TT.
While TikTok has been on the coals for a hot minute, especially after Montanaās move to ban the app, I like to see the innovations for creators who donāt adhere to short form exclusively.
So, would you use TT Series, or is this just a move by TT to saturate the content market even further? Let me know your thoughts!
