Paywalls Coming to TikTok 💸

TikTok's weekly updates are making my head spin. Is the brand launching all of these lovable features to win users over? Or are they trying to save face with the looming ban in President Biden's hands? Either way, I'm just happy to see some cool updates for creators!

TikTok just announced "Series" which will gate content behind a paywall. Meaning you can only see a creator's Series videos if you pay for the content. But that's not even the biggest feature of Series. 

Creators can set their own prices for these paywalls, and create videos up to 20 minutes long. This is a big deal for creators who are looking to earn more income off of their hard work. 

While only a select few creators were chosen for this feature, I could see many long form creators repurposing content to that 9:16 framing to earn even more cash (or begin to earn if you're not yet monetizable). 

TikTok mentioned that for a limited time, creators will earn 100% of the revenue generated from these paywalls. Emphasis on "limited time" here, because I can't see a world where TT doesn't take a cut. 

Is you're a long form YouTuber, does this feature make you excited? Would you abandoned your Patreon for this "Series" feature? Maybe you'll dig into both to earn even more!

Regardless of what happens with the potential ban on TikTok, creators being able to earn more from their content is the important piece of news here. Let's keep getting that well deserved money and push these massive platforms to give back to those who made them popular in the first place! 💪

Creator Economy News 🚨

This week in the creator world, Google cracking down on coordinated ops from China, 20 women in the creator economy who are shaping the future of the industry, Soundcloud makes a comeback, brands wanting to buy your channel, and more. 

• Google removes over 6,000 YouTube channels after finding "coordinated influence operations." Now this is no TikTok-level national security issue; YT's team found that a majority of these were to promote influencer and music pages.

• These 20 women are absolutely killing the game and paving the way for the creator economy. Huge shout outs are in order, go check out their amazing work!! 💪

• 2015 called and they told us Soundcloud is having a baby with AI and TikTok. Jokes aside, this new feature actually looks pretty sick. I think it's time to dive back into my old Soundcloud library!

• Snoop Dogg (Lion? Has he Animorphed backwards?) launches an NFT platform for creators, placing an emphasis on monetization. Check out the details here.

• MKBHD says yes to everything that came into his inbox for a month. I wish I knew, I would have sent him the new and improved CreatorPad website for review. 😉

• This company raised $50M and it wants to buy 50% of your YouTube channel.

Meet Skider!

I found Skider through a post on LinkedIn stating that he is on a mission to be the biggest YouTuber on the plant. Now, many people may hear this and doubt, but if you meet Skider, you'll believe this claim. 

As part of the YouTube New Wave, Skider is a master of storytelling and editing to evoke emotion. With videos focusing on life changes, experiences, facing fears and beyond, Skider's videos capture the pivotal points in his life, and with his ability to transparently share, as a viewer we're pulled deep into his world, making us feel like we're on this journey with him.
