Creators Take Over the Sports Niche

With the PGA and NBA eyeing creators, creators begin to host their own events, like Ludwig's Streamer Games

Happy Wednesday creator peeps!

How’s everyone’s summer so far? We’re somehow approaching the back half of the season, and I have no idea where the last month just went… Anyone else?

While the fall is approaching, I couldn’t be more excited for things to come. From insanely exciting updates with CreatorPad to getting back to Denver and getting tapped in with the local creator community, I’m itching for that cool fall weather (and escaping the humidity of New York 🫠).

What are you readers looking forward to for this fall? Any exciting updates you want to share with the community? Reply to this email for a potential feature in next week’s issue where I’ll showcase your big update. The Cmd+Shift+Create community all wins together, so share that exciting news!!

Until next week, let’s jump into the latest in creator news.

Streamer Games or Olympics?

Source: streamergames.gg

Sure, watching the world’s greatest athletes going head to head to bring home gold for their country is sweet, but isn’t watching a bunch of streamers try to be athletic even more entertaining?

  • Probably not, but Ludwig will put that question to the test with the recent announcement of Ludwig’s Streamer Games on August 17 & 18.

  • The Streamer Games marks yet another foray into the live entertainment world by streamer & creator, Ludwig Ahgren. Ludwig has been consistently hosting live events over the last few years, and with the Olympics in full swing, what better way to command an audience than bringing together their favorite creators & streamers to compete against each other?

  • Sponsored by big brands like Redbull, YouTube, Twitch, and several creator brands such as OTK, 100Thieves, and FaZe Clan, this will surely be a high-production event that brings in thousands of eyes for fans and haters alike.

  • With Ludwig continuing to command the creator event space, specifically in the “sports” realm (such as his Chess Boxing events), I believe we’ll continue to see a further shift away from traditional events and athletes to more niche, creator-led events.

  • With the PGA announcing the ‘Creator Classic,’ the NBA doing its yearly ‘Creator Cup,’ and creators beginning to host their own events, the tides are shifting as staple organizations see the value creators can provide when they bring their audiences.

More coverage of Ludwigs Streamer Games to come in an upcoming issue, until then, keep an eye out for other creators like Ludwig commanding the sports entertainment space.

PGA Eyes the Creator Economy

Fore! The PGA TOUR is getting in on the creator action as they announce "The Creator Classic," a nine-hole golf competition with competitors consisting of all creators. This marks a major shift in the almost 100-year-old franchise and the value creators are bringing to the table.

  • The event will feature sixteen popular golf content creators, including names like Brad Dalke, Garrett Clark, Sean Walsh, Tyler Toney, and more.

  • Leveraging these creators and their brands (Dude Perfect, Good Good, etc.), the PGA hopes to bring in younger eyes as it bridges the gap through social media and creators.

  • The nine-hole event will begin on August 28, 2024, before the PGA TOUR Championship.

  • And dialing in on their creator-centric approach, the event will be streamed on the PGA TOUR’s YouTube channel as well as ESPN+, Peacock, and more.

This move by the PGA can yet again signal a massive shift in the traditional sports world. While golf has an insanely strong fanbase, younger generations weren’t all too interested in the slow-paced sport until creators came in and shook up the game. I believe we’ll continue to see this shift progress as creators continue their prominence on social media and shed light on sports that have somewhat fallen out of the public eye.

Gawx’s Awaited but Unexpected Channel

Source: Gawx (YouTube)

If you’re an avid reader of this newsletter, Gawx will need no introduction. As an incredible artist, cinematographer, and creator, Gawx is a constant inspiration for me across many of my interests.

For the uninitiated, Gawx doesn’t just film his art process, he creates narratives in each of his videos that are accented by movie-quality cinematography. Between his gorgeous production and impressive art, I quickly fell for Gawx’s content, so finding yet another channel from the legend himself, I had to show you readers.

Where Gawx’s main channel is centered around his art, this channel seems to be tied more closely to his cinematographic passions. Showcasing different times of the year, feelings, moods, and beyond, Gawx presumptuously uses this channel as a means to continue exploring his creative passions for filmmaking outside of his main channel.

These bite-sized pieces of content are perfect for a jolt of inspiration and a reminder to slow down and smell the flowers. On this channel, Gawx really dials in on making the seemingly insignificant things beautiful, and I believe this channel is to remind both himself and us viewers to find the beauty in the little things. That’s what being a creative is all about anyway, right?

If you’re looking to get inspired in just a handful of seconds, look no further than this channel by Gawx. And after you dive in, let me know which short video is your favorite. I’m really vibing with March right now, but that just might be because I’m back in NY. 😌

Hope you enjoyed this week’s post. See you next week ✌️
