Welcome to this week's issue of the CreatorPad Newsletter, where we update you on all things CreatorPad and the creator economy!

This week in the creator space, a Patreon survey finds that 70 percent of creators feel screwed by big tech platforms and their accompanying algorithms, Michael Mignano breaks down the "creativity supply chain," a streamer launches a line of bidets, and more. This week on CreatorPad:

What is the Creativity Supply Chain? ⛓

In this interesting thought piece from Anchor's Co-Founder, Michael Mignano; Mignano breaks down his thoughts on the current state of the creator economy and pushes the point that creativity is the backbone of our modern internet economy. Mignano believes that what was once a way to be creative and express ourselves is now powering how we all interact with what's online and put in front of us every day.

While Mignano dives into the Devil's advocate territory in explaining that not everyone is cut out to make it as a content creator, and even suggesting that "the Creator Economy was never about democratization; it was about elitism." He also gives a nod to the fact that everyone creating IS the importance and a driving factor behind what he defines as the "Creativity Supply Chain."

Simply put by Mignano, "the Creativity Supply Chain is the global market for creativity in today’s modern economy. It is made up of the supply, incentives, and demand that drive how and why people create."

Diving deep into a myriad of other lanes, such as the rise of AI, machine learning, and universal access to the internet, Mignano wraps up his piece simply yet promisingly. "The market for creativity is destined to reach new heights in the coming years and decades."

The full article is a very thought-out and in-depth piece with visuals included. While I tried to pull out the juiciest chunks for you readers, I definitely didn't cover everything, so be sure to read the full article by Mignano below!

Creators Feel "Screwed" by Big Platformsđź‘Ž

Patreon recently held a survey of 1,500 creators in an attempt to learn more about the current state of the creator economy as it relates to the rise of heavier algorithmic filtering.

If you frequent social platforms like YouTube, TikTok, or even Instagram today, you've likely noticed that you're finding less content from pages and creators that you actually subscribe to. This is due in part to every platform trying to tweak their algorithms to get you to stay on longer; what the platforms seem to not care about, though, are the creators themselves.

Breaking down the deets:

  • 75% of creators want to make more diverse work, but feel like the algorithm will push them down if they stray off their normal path.

  • 73% don’t like that algorithms affect the work they put out.

  • 75% feel like algorithms punish those who aren’t constantly publishing.

  • 40% say they don’t know how to use platform algorithms to increase their reach.

And my favorite takeaway from this survey: 83% of creators say they love collaborating with other creators, and 85% say they’re interested in building relationships with other creators.

So it's pretty clear to see that the creator relationship with algorithms is bad at best right now. So it begs the question, what should these platforms do to entice creators to feel, well, creative? On the other hand, algorithms can't be outright abandoned, and creators are going to keep creating regardless. So the bigger question here is: How can we create a better algorithm?
