đ°ď¸A $368M Fine for TikTok, X's Competitor Hits 1M, Prime Grosses $500M & More.
TikTok isn't protecting children's data and gets hit with a lawsuit, BlueSky is making waves and gearing up to take on X, Prime Energy is killing it, and more. This week in creator economy news.
Bonjourrrrrrr creators!
Iâm back from Paris and itâs full-blown fall weather in NY now??? Iâm glad I decided to eat extra bread every chance I got, Iâm almost ready for hibernation after this trip #NotPregnantJustEatingGood.
I wanted to take a moment to remind you readers to take a break every once in a while, especially you creators. When youâre in the weeds and youâre grinding every day and every week, sometimes you forget to pick your head up and realize where your own headspace is at.
Taking a break and stepping back allows you to reset and refresh, and it may even help you work even harder when you get back (and not just because you let your emails pile up for a week đ ).
So creators, if you feel like you need to take it easy for a few days, do it. Reset, recharge, and when you come back youâll be in a much different headspace that can allow for even better work. Remember, youâre not your best self if youâre not taking care of yourself, so if youâre looking for a sign to take a breather, this is it.
Now enough of my jet-lagged ramblings, letâs get into this week in creator economy news!!!
Creator Economy News đ¨
This week in the creator world, check out whoâs clipping your YouTube videos and see the viewership, Xâs competitor is gaining traction, Prime Energy is making massive waves, TikTok is having some ups and downs LimeWire has acquired an AI company, NFL doubles down on YouTube, and more.
You wouldnât download a car (praying that some of you readers understand this reference). LimeWire, yes the same LimeWire that probably gave your family computer a terminal disease, has acquired BlueWillow, a generative AI image tool, and MidJourneyâs competitor. This adds to LimeWireâs recent push to become a more creator-forward brand.
The NFL is looking to latch on to creators even further by allowing creators to use in-game footage for their videos. This marks a huge win for both creators and the NFL. Better footage leads to more viewers and fewer channel strikes, leading to more viewership and interest in the NFL and its rise on YouTube.
Are you making some killer content on YouTube? Have any of your videos gotten clipped? Well, now you can check out the clips and see how many views they got. This is an amazing means of seeing what content your viewers are enjoying, so you can make the necessary adjustments to increase that watch time!
TikTok Time
Thereâs so much TikTok news this week that Iâm making its own section. Letâs see whatâs going on with big olâ TT.
TikTok takes a $368M fine from Europe for failing to protect the privacy of children using the app. Seems like TikTok made some privacy features unclear to new users, prompting uninformed decisions, and public profiles of underage users.
TikTok trusts its employees⌠Kinda⌠Sorta⌠tracking employees is part of trust, right? TikTok rolls out the equivalent of punch cards for their workers, with employees reported to clock in at least three days per week. TL;DR? This is just an internal tracking system.
What do Black Friday & Cyber Monday have in common? Theyâre going to be dominated by TikTok this year. Heavy discounts will be rolling out on TikTok Shop, with hopes to beat out big retailers like Amazon & Walmart.
You should see these đ
While X wavers in popularity, competitor Blue Sky has just surpassed 1M users. As we saw with Threads, I donât believe that Blue Sky will be a flash in the pan, I think weâre seeing some slow, steady, and strategic growth. Keep an eye on Blue Sky. đÂ
The insanely massive creator-led energy drink brand, PRIME is set to achieve over $500M in revenue in just two years. I wonder if PRIME will take a Red-Bull-like pivot in an attempt to bring in more consumers and brand awareness. It would be cool to see another brand begin to dominate the action sports world and create some comp for Red Bull.
General Mills (yes, the cereal brand) is doubling down on short-form content to drive more sales. Seeing massive brands like GM start to dip their toes into the water is cool to see, but also a bit strange feeling. With mass adoption, is the end nigh? Nahhhh.

Meet Antoine Vril!
Antoine is a content creator and fisherman who I had the pleasure of meeting on my recent trip to Paris!
While walking the Seine, I noticed a guy fishing off of a 30-foot bridge with a GoPro strapped and seemingly talking to himself. Any normal person might just walk by, but I knew he had to be a creator, so I stopped to chat.
I spoke with Antoine for only about a minute or two, he let me know what he was fishing for and then he gave me his channel, and I was pumped to see heâs crushing it with almost 9k subs!!
While I donât speak French, I still love showcasing a niche creator who is obsessed with their craft. From teaching viewers how to create their own lures, to showcasing his fishing adventures from the streets to kayaks; Antoine is sharing his love for fishing and his viewers can feel the passion.
With his fast-paced and raw edits in his videos, Antoine gives you the feeling of fishing right beside him. If you speak French, consider checking out Antoineâs channel, and even if you donât consider dropping a sub to support another growing creator.
Keep up the great work and keep catching em up, Antoine!
